Why the immune system is the best to fight coronavirus
The unending deadly spread of Coronaviruses popularly known as COVID – 19 has created havoc all over the world. And the immune system is the best and only weapon to fight coronavirus as of now. It has forced all of us on this earth to think about saving ourselves. And we have to do it without any specific medicine. Further considering the speed with which it spreads and lack of proper treatment, we must protect ourselves. Immunity of our body can play a major role in protecting ourselves from this deadly virus. Immunity as such is a very complicated and vast topic. In this article we will discuss only those ways and means of boosting immunity that is somehow related to fighting COVID- 19.
Immunity of our body is a natural defense system. It provides resistance against any invasion from outside by pathogens. Further it helps in fighting the diseases and infections caused by viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens. Allergies occur when our immune system mistakes harmless substances for threats and attacks these harmless substances. That’s why the immune system is considered the best to fight all pathogens including coronavirus.
Immunity based on specificity is of two types.
Innate immunity (Natural immunity) :
This type of immunity exists in an individual right from its birth and the intensity differs from person to person. It can be enhanced by adopting various ways that we are going to discuss below. When cells in the innate immune system “see” an invader, they rush in to destroy it, often by releasing inflammatory chemicals.
Acquired immunity (Adaptive immunity) :
The adaptive immune system provides a more targeted approach. As the immune cells encounter invaders, they develop specific antibodies against them. These cells hang out in tissue, ready to quickly spring to action when they encounter the same invader. This creates immunologic memory and prevents reinfection. That is how the vaccines work. That means the diseases do nor recur. The same is the case with COVID – 19 because once infected the person develops antibodies that do not allow pathogens to cause damage.
Signs of a faulty Immune System
The immune system can be faulty due to various reasons.
Research shows that nearly 70% of the beneficial bacteria and microorganisms that live in our digestive system defend our gut from infection and support our overall immune system. Low amounts of these helpful gut bacteria can leave us at risk of viruses, chronic inflammation, and even autoimmune disorder. That’s the reason the immune system is considered the best for fighting coronavirus.
There are indications that will make us aware of the weakness of our immune system. If detected beforehand it can help us to boost our immune system before any pathogen could harm us. The indications of a weak immune system are :
1 ) If we have frequent diarrhea, gas, or constipation, it could be a sign that our immune system is compromised.
2 ) If someone is constantly catching colds or have a cold that’s won’t run its course – that’s a clear sign that the immune system is struggling to keep up.
3 ) Our wounds are slow to heal. This healing process depends on healthy immune cells. But if our immune system is sluggish, our skin can’t regenerate. Instead, your wounds linger and have a hard time healing.
4 ) If someone seems to battle frequent infections like
- Having more than four ear infections in one year
- Developing pneumonia twice during a one-year period
- Suffering from chronic sinusitis or more than three episodes of bacterial sinusitis in a year
- Needing more than two courses of antibiotics a year
5 ) If someone consistently feels tired despite getting enough sleep. It’s worth considering if the immune system is trying to tell something.
